I think fish is a great addition to hioliday feasts, you've found a way to bring "surf" and "turf" together, while winning the admiration of your family! I really enjoyed this post - it's a great idea!

Unfortunately, I don't have any food rituals here in Paris, as my kitchen is rudimentary and doesn't allow for much creativity. But as soon as I go home to my parents' house in the Lot-et-Garonne, things change!

And it's at home with the family that I inaugurated New Year's Eve Paëlla four years ago. It all started with my mum wondering what on earth to make for New Year's Eve dinner. By that time, we were all suffering from an overdose of foie gras, roast capon, and roast turkey with stuffing. So we started discussing what we could do with seafood - and that's when I went to fetch my mum's old cookbook from Spain and found myself volunteering to make paëlla for everyone.

I'd never made it in my life before, and we had nothing resembling a paëlla dish (we still don't, as a matter of fact, which basically means I use every single pot and pan in the kitchen, and take over every flat surface!) so I was a bit hesitant. But it turned out so well that by popular demand, I now end up making it every year. I've become the Paëlla Lady (I would be greatly offended if anyone chose to make it in my absence!) and paëlla has now become a firm fixture of our New Year celebrations...

Florence.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
